You’ve never seen a town like Vero Beach, Florida

Vero Beach, Florida is a Unique Beach Town

Everyone knows that there’s never been a town like Vero Beach, FL. It’s got the sand, the sun, and everything you could ask for in a beach town.

But wait, there’s more!

There used to be a tunnel here, but it’s now blocked off and no longer in use. The Citrus Bank’s drive-thru was connected to the Citrus Bank (old Farmers Bank) by this tunnel at one point. (20th street)

The tunnel system had a side entrance, like the one at the corner of Old Dixie Highway and Stanbridge Avenue. Today, it’s home to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

Shortly after World War II, drive-thru banks became popular. Citrus Bank designed their drive-thru bank in the mid-century modern style, with materials like glass and aluminum.

This tunnel, in Vero Beach, FL, underneath State Road 60, was used for safety purposes to transport financial transactions back and forth.

If you could afford to take your family on one more exotic vacation each year rather than spend it on your heating and cooling, wouldn’t that make life a lot more enjoyable?
